
Rotary torque sensor and its applications
Rotary torque transducer is an advanced device engineered to measure torque, or rotational force, applied to a rotating system such as a shaft, motor, or gearbox. It works by detecting torsional forces transmitted through a rotating element using strain gauges. These gauges measure deformation caused by torque and convert it into an electrical signal. This signal can be transmitted, monitored, recorded, or analyzed, making the sensor essential for real-time performance evaluation and process optimization. Rotary torque sensors are classified into two primary types based on their data transmission method. Slip-ring sensors use slip rings or brushes to transmit electrical signals from the rotating shaft to stationary electronics. These are widely used for high-speed and continuous rotation systems. On the other hand, non-contact sensors utilize wireless or telemetry systems to transfer data without physical connections, offering advantages like reduced wear, enhanced durability, and higher reliability in demanding applications. Structurally, rotary torque sensors vary, with popular types including flange type, shaft type, square drive type, and hollow type designs, catering to diverse application needs. Some advanced models integrate additional functionalities such as speed or angle measurement.
